Every baby’s arrival into the world is special but baby Oisin Devlin’s birth has hit the headlines.

The little Culdaff boy has become “quite the celebrity” as he was the first baby to be born in Donegal in 2015.

Oisin is the first child of Francis and Marian Devlin, who are just “over the moon” with their new arrival. Due on January 5th, he decided to make his appearance early, arriving at 3.11pm on New Year’s Day, weighing 7lb 9oz.

Marian told the ‘Journal’ how the staff of Letterkenny General Hospital, where Oisin was born, were surprised they had to wait until the afternoon to deliver their first baby of 2015.

She said: “There was great excitement. They were telling me how New Year’s Eve had been bedlam in the maternity ward, so they were surprised they had to wait so long on New Year’s Day.”

Marian quipped that Oisin is like a “celebrity” since and revealed the newborn even got a special birthday present from none other than former Donegal GAA captain Michael Murphy.

Marian added: “Francis went down into Letterkenny to get Oisin his own Donegal outfit and Michael Murphy happened to be in his shop. He was so kind and signed the wee jersey.

“We’re delighted that he was born on New Year’s Day but, it’s just lovely to have him here safe and well.

“The fact his birth date is on January 1st is an added bonus.”
