Newly elected SDLP councillor, Shauna Cusack, has welcomed the improvement work at Lowry’s Lane.
Ms. Cusack said the work was much needed and added that she was delighted to see so many people using the walkway again.
“Works carried out last weekend by Derry City Council to the middle section of Lowry’s Lane have further increased the physical attraction and safety of the walkway.
“Anyone who uses the lane on a regular basis and I’m delighted to see more and more people enjoying it, will find the new anti slip surface on the steepest section a great benefit. This will advantage all types of users but will also encourage usage in all weathers.”
Ms. Cusack went on to say that Lowry’s Lane had been totally transformed and called for people to “protect” and “respect” the lane.
“The lane has totally been transformed and as many of the shrubs and plants which survived early vandalism have blossomed and made the area a beautiful natural environment. As this has been a long fought for project I would like to again implore people to protect and respect it.
“Should they witness any anti-social behaviour, vandalism or dog fouling please report it immediately to the community safety wardens. The lane is there for all to enjoy and remains open to all 24/7 , it is only the council that can authorise the closure of the gates and only under extreme circumstances, hopefully with public and care consideration this will not be necessary.”
