Damage along Lower Galliagh Rd. to be fixed

There have been concerns over the state of the road, which has fallen into a state of disrepair after recent work by NI Water in the area.

The water company had been on site for the past 18 months upgrading a sewage pumping station to cope with extra demand from estates in the vicinity.

Councillor Tierney said the fresh commitment to remedy the state of the busy road was to be welcomed.

“For almost two years the residents of Woodbrook and Pinetrees have had to endure a sub-standard road at the entrance to their estates. The recently completed construction of a new sewage pumping station has left the road covered potholes.

“Until now Transport NI have argued that the continued construction in the area rendered any repairs counterproductive and that any work would quickly be undone by the heavy machinery using the road.

“NI Water completed construction work in recent months and I raised the resurfacing issue again with Transport NI officials at June’s Council meeting. Thankfully they have now agreed to completely resurface the road.”

The Ballyarnett councillor concluded:“Funding has now been secured and work on Lower Galliagh Road is expected to commence in autumn - this is welcome news for residents of Woodbrook and Pinetrees.”
