Donegal crooner Daniel O’Donnell has revealed he has fond memories of Dungiven and has close connections with the area.
The Irish singer from Kincasslagh made the revelation as he joined a galaxy of stars for “The Late Late Show” country music special on Friday.
Recalling the days of the dances and seeing ‘Big Tom”, Daniel recalled a trip to Dungiven.
“I went to The Castle in Dungiven. I was only six. My mother took me, because I loved Philomena, to see her,” said the 53-year-old, fresh from swinging his hips on BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Daniel also spoke highly of Foreglen singer John McNicholl who is currently in Nashville. Daniel made sure to praise John on the RTE show as being among those responsible for reviving country music among younger fans.
John, who won Best Newcomer Award from Country Music UK in 2001, said they have a long standing friendship, and have shared the stage several times.
