A Derry mother has spoken of how her daughter was left devastated after Twitter trolls turned her elation at seeing her One Direction idols on stage into a nightmare of death threats and obscene abuse.

Michelle Temple spoke out in the wake of the backlash agaisnt her 15-year-old daughter Levi, who had attended a 1D concert in Belfast last Thursday.

The Derry woman said her daughter had “had a great time” at the concert and “was still buzzing on Friday morning until she logged into her Twitter and realised that the whole world had started a hate campaign against her”.

The trouble started after water was exchanged in what Levi and others had taken to be good-natured fun between the band and fans during the packed concert at the Odyssey Arena.

After 1D band member Louis, it was claimed, through some water towards Levi and her friends, some of the girls including Levi reciprocated, but she later revealed on Twitter that some of the water meant for Louis had hit Niall Horan by mistake.

Video footage of the incident has been circulated which appears to show Niall being splashed on the side with water and walking to the back of the stage, removing what appeared to be an electric guitar in the process.

“As a mother of a 15-year-old die hard 1D fan, I am extremely concerned for her well being as she has refused to leave the house since this all started.

“Myself and Levi want all this to stop and because she loves 1D so much she wants Niall and the rest of the band to know that this has been blew out of proportion and she would never in her wildest dreams want to hurt any of them.”
