Derry city councillors are to look at ways of honouring the late Martin McCrossan with a special memorial. At this afternoon’s development committee meeting Councillor John Boyle of the SDLP said efforts should be made to mark Martin’s considerable contribution to tourism.

“In the past ten years Martin looked after in excess of 90,000 visitors,” he said. “We want to reflect how important he was. It could be that we could erect a plaque in an appropriate place in the city. Martin was a proud Derry man and worked tirelessly as an ambassador. “

The proposal was seconded by the Mayor Brenda Stevenson.

It can also be announced that the Derry Journal will also establish an award in Martin’s memory at this year’s Derry Journal People of the Year Awards. The revival of the awards, established originally as the Derry People of the Year Awards, was due to Mr McCrossan’s innovation.
