A Waterside man and his bride-to-be are hoping the Derry public will help them bag their dream wedding.
Boyd Hamilton and his fiancée Juliet McLoughlin, whose family hail from Sligo, are among ten couples to make it to the final stage of the Rock Radio Royal Wedding competition.
Rock Radio - one of the UK’s most popular stations for fans of rock music - has been searching for two couples to join in a special triple ceremony at the Manchester Museum on August 4.
“This would be our dream wedding,” rock fan Boyd, told the ‘Journal’ this week.
“I hope people back in Derry will give us their support and vote for us.”
The winning couples - along with the station’s presenter, the Lord of Dewsbury who is marrying Lady Jolaine of Canadia - will wed under the watchful eye of Stan, the museum’s resident T-Rex.
Boyd, who works as a nurse in Bolton and Juliet have been together for nine years and have a six-year-old son Jack.
Jack and Boyd’s best friend Andrew Donnell are getting ready for best man duties.
“Jack thinks it would be a great wedding,” says Boyd.
“He is always asking when Mummy and Daddy are getting married and as there will be a real dinosaur in tow he’s even more excited.
“We have both been married and divorced - we’ve been looking for an excuse like this to get hitched as we never seem to have enough money to do it, and to do it Rock Radio style, and have it all paid for, would be a dream come true.”
Voting got underway on June 27 and closes at noon on July 11
Boyd says he has no idea how the voting is going so far, but says the competition is now at the stage where absolutely every vote counts.
He says should he and his fiancée miss out on the Rock Radio competition, they’ll look at getting married some time later this year.
To vote for Boyd and Juliet, people should text COUPLE 10 to 87711 before 12pm on July 11.
Texts cost 25p plus network charges.
