A Derry group are in line to receive an award from the National Lottery.
The Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum have been nominated in the lottery’s search to recognise groups who make a life changing difference in the community.
The winner in each category, decided by public vote, will be celebrated at a special star-studded BBC One Show later in the year.
Local project, Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum, has reached the final of the National Lottery Awards in the Best Health Project category and have appealed for everyone to show their support in the final voting stage.
The group is a community-led health improvement project bringing together many different groups and agencies in order to enhance the health and well-being of the people that reside in the community.
The Health Forum coordinates a rolling programme of health promotion and development in various community venues throughout the area.
A fantastic example of a project initiated by the Health Forum is The Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Support Group which has now grown to become an active group organising and delivering activities within the community.
Local men Tony, John and Trevor were all experiencing health problems such as back pain, depression and obesity prior to visiting Bogside and Brandywell.
The project changed their lives by engaging them in healthy living centres where they enjoy exercising and meeting new people. All three took part in a recent boat race - a testament to their new health and something they never thought they would be able to physically achieve.
Here’s an inspirational film to showcase the impact this project is having in Northern Ireland, which you can view here:
