In keeping with the city’s fantastic Music City programme Derry will be absolutely brimming with talent from this Thursday, May 1st to Monday, May 5th as hundreds of performers from across the globe arrive for a massive celebration of all things musical at the 13th City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.
Bars, hotels, cafes and even street corners will be echoing to the sounds of jazz, swing, soul, blues, and even folk, with hundreds of free performances taking place throughout the weekend as part of the Guinness Free Jazz Trail.
Enjoy some prohibition style glitz and glamour with the festival’s Speakeasy theme, with underground backstreet bars, covert concerts and secret passwords - just make sure you don’t get caught!
Throughout the weekend al fresco gigs, impromptu performances, and top class music events embracing all genres, bring the city to life and provide the soundtrack for the best summer weekend of entertainment imaginable.
This year’s impressive line-up includes internationally renowned bassist and composer Kyle Eastwood, who is at the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene.
He will be joined this year by 90’s pop and soul star Curtis Stigers, who brings his smooth sounds to the Spiegeltent, which will be setting up camp in the Guildhall Square and bringing some vaudeville charm to the Festival.
The rest of this year’s programme is jam-packed with high energy talent, with appearances from the Puppini Sisters, The Jive Aces, and Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods, all guaranteed to have you on your feet all night long.
And dedicated jazz lovers will be delighted to catch local festival favourites Gay McIntyre, Paul McIntyre, David Little, Dana Masters and John Leighton.
