Derry man, Ken Fitzpatrick (68), was on his way home from the pub when he ran into amateur photographer, Bernard Ward. Ken asked Bernard to take his photograph and told him that it would be a "dream come true" if the photograph was to appear in 'The Derry Journal'. Bernard put the photograph on Facebook, the story went viral and here it is, in today's Derry Journal. (DP2803AQ01)

Ken Fitzpatrick was on his way home from the pub when he bumped into local amateur photographer, Bernard Ward.

Ken, (68) asked Bernard to take his photograph and enquired if Bernard worked for ‘The Derry Journal’.

Ken has been a loyal reader of ‘The Derry Journal’ for over 45 years and he told Bernard it would be a dream come true if the photo was to appear in the paper.

Bernard then posted the photograph on social networking website, Facebook and after speaking to Ken yesterday afternoon, the editorial team at the Derry Journal opted to make Ken’s dream a reality.

“I can’t believe it - I’ve been reading The Derry Journal for years and they are going to use my photo - I am really thankful to the young fella who took my photo and appearing in the Derry Journal is a real come true for me,” said retired construction worker Ken.

Bernard, who owns www.DerryPhotos.com, said he couldn’t believe the reaction the picture received on Facebook and said taking Ken’s photograph was nothing short of a pleasure.

“Ken is some character. He was a lovely lovely man and I am delighted to have played a small part in making this happen.

“People from all over the world commented and shared the photograph on Facebook and it had been viewed over 30,000 times,” he said.
