The North’s Deputy First Minister has passed on his condolences to the family of a Derry man who died after being found in a canal in Amsterdam.
Damien McFadden, 37, fell into the Singel Canal in the city at the weekend.
Martin McGuinness said he was “absolutely devastated to hear the news.”
“He is a father of a young family and in fact he lives very close to my daughter. It is a very distressing story, heartbreaking.
“My thoughts obviously go out to the family at this very, very sad time.”
Dublin’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it was helping the family.
“We are providing consular assistance both through our Embassy in The Hague and through our consular team in Dublin,” said a spokeswoman.
