The family of a Derry man missing in Thailand have issued an appeal for information regarding his whereabouts.
Matthew (Matt) Boyle’s cousin Brian Melarkey spoke to the Journal and issued information which he hopes will help in the search for the 37-year-old.
Matthew Boyle went to Bangkok in September 2011 to work as a Senior Business Analyst with a company called Asia Biogas. In the summer of 2013 he and a colleague bought a wine bar – SIP Winebar- in Bangkok. Later that year Matthew left Asia Biogas to run the wine bar on a full-time basis. Until recently he was living in the Hotel Natural Ville in Langsuan Road in the commercial/financial part of the city.
Mr. Melarkey said: “His last contact with his parents was by phone on July 8th and since then they have been unable to contact him either by phone, text, email or skype. Normally they would be in contact two or three times a week. Enquiries made in Bangkok by acquaintances and the Irish Consulate have proved fruitless and currently the PSNI are carrying out a missing person investigation. Matthew is 37 years old, five foot eight inches tall and of stocky build.”
Meanwhile a spokesperson for the office of Foyle MP Durkan said they had been contact with the Department of Foreign Affiars as well as the consulate office in Thailand. The spokesperson said that the Boyle family had contacted Mark Durkan’s office and that any help they needed would be provided to them.
