Derry City Council have confirmed that they are in negotiations with music promoters to stage a music festival in Derry later this year.
The Derry Journal broke the story exclusively on Tuesday and it is believed that MTV are involved in the negotiations.
A spokesperson for Derry City Council said:
“Negotiations are continuing with music promoters for the purposes of securing music acts for organizing a music festival in the city as part of Music City 2014.”
Sinn Fein councillor and Chair of Derry City Council Development Committee, Elisha McCallion, said since The Derry Journal broke the story she had been contacted countless times by people interested to find out more.
“Since the story appeared in the press I have been inundated with calls from people with great excitement and buzz around it particularly as many are looking forward to seeing ‘Radio One’s Big Weekend’ which is happening next month in Glasgow and want to see another major music event happening in Derry.
“Whilst people are very eager for information I would just appeal to them to give the people working very hard behind the scenes the space to ensure we get the successful outcome we are all looking forward to.”
