Derry Olympic swimming hopeful Ryan Harrison has been suspended from competing with his US college team.

The University of Tennessee says Harrison, 22, has been suspended due to a “violation of team rules.”

At present the reason for the Derry swimmers suspension is unclear.

But in a statement, Harrison, the Irish record holder at 200m freestyle and the 20111 Derry Sport’s Personality, denied having ever taken “illegal substances.”

“I have never tested positive for any illegal substances and have taken many drug tests for the university, just like any other student athlete,” the statement says.
