Thousands of Derry women took to the streets yesterday as the annual Foyle Hospice Walk/Run got underway.

A sea of yellow T-shirts set off along Buncrana Road, stopping traffic as the women walked before following the new route which took the walkers across to Fort George, along the quay and over the Peace Bridge before finishing at Ebrington.

A large number of women wore T-shirts printed with names or images of loved ones they had lost and who they were walking in memory of.

And at the finish line a touch of romance was added to the proceedings when one lucky walker was proposed to by her partner - she of course said yes.
