Disability Action, in partnership with BT, is hosting an evening of fun and entertainment on Friday, February 10, 2012 with a Gala Ball to help celebrate 20 years in the North West.
The Ball will take place in the City Hotel, Derry and is the finale of a year of celebrations to mark the work the charity has done with and for people with disabilities in the North West.
Disability Action’s Derry office, on Strand Road, was officially opened on October 23, 1990 and since then has been instrumental in delivering disability rights in the North West through campaigning and a range of innovative services and projects.
Since the office opened 20 years ago the number of staff has doubled from five to ten with some of the original team members still based there. Disability Action offer a wide range of services and projects in the North West, including employment and training support, information and advice, equality and human rights projects, driving assessments and lessons, ICT courses, a housing research project and the most recent addition is a course for people with learning disabilities to assist them in passing their driving theory test.
Peter Morris, Consumer Director, BT in Northern Ireland, said: “BT has enjoyed a strong relationship with Disability Action for a number of years through our Corporate Responsibility programme and this milestone provides an opportunity to highlight and recognise the fantastic work that has been carried out for the past twenty years by Disability Action in the North West.”
The Gala Ball will be a wonderful night full of surprises, where guests can enjoy a beautiful dinner, dance the night away with Sugartown Road Band, and one guest will win a fabulous holiday in an exciting raffle.
