Disappointment as Derry bid to become European Youth Capital 2019 unsuccessful

There was disappointment in Bulgaria on Wednesday evening after Derry and Strabane's bid to become European Youth Capital for 2019 was unsuccessful.

The title went to Novi Sad in Serbia.

A team from Derry City and Strabane District Council travelled to Varna in Bulgaria for the announcement which took place on Wednesday evening.

The Derry and Strabane bid reached the final shortlist of five cities which included Manchester (England), Novi Sad (Serbia), Amiens (France) and Perugia (Italy).

The first ever E.Y.C. was Rotterdam in 2009. The cities who have held and who are due to hold the title are as follows: Turin (2010); Antwerp (2011); Braga (2012); Maribor (2013); Thessaloniki (2014); Cluj-Napoca (2015); Ganja (2016); Varna (2017) and Cascais (2018).
