Disgust at under-age drinking in Buncrana

Buncrana’s Mayor said he is disgusted more than 100 drunk teenagers trashed the town’s Shore Front on Good Friday, leaving behind their clothes and 78 bags of rubbish.

Journal sources have said the underage boozers travelled down in two double decker buses from Northern Ireland.

And Mayor Michael Grant said it added insult to injury that they left so much mess behind them after a major clean-up operation took place in the peninsula the weekend before.

It’s believed the teenagers brought alcohol to the beach and partied all afternoon, skinny dipping and leaving behind their rubbish, including 20 towels, six pairs of shoes, four pairs of jeans and 20 tops, both male and female.

Mayor Grant told the Journal: “I took a number of phone calls from concerned members of the public informing me there were at least 100 teenagers down on the Shore Front running mad and getting a pile of drink into them.”

Mayor Grant, who is a member of the local Tidy Town committee, said the group were ‘disgusted’ after collecting 78 bags of rubbish left behind by the revellers.
