Sinn Féin Waterside Councillor Christopher Jackson is concerned that a wall on Distillery Close will collapse unless immediate action is taken.

Councillor Jackson stated: “I was contacted a number of weeks ago by residents concerned about a retaining wall in Distillery Close.

“The wall is leaning and large cracks have appeared on the surface and I am concerned that a large section of this wall could collapse at any minute unless immediate action is taken to secure it.

“As children are out of school at the minute many are playing in the vicinity of the wall and if it collapses we are most certainly looking at a fatality.

“I have contacted Building Control on several occasions who have been in contact with the owner in order to have the wall repaired and secured.

“I am calling on the owner to carry out this work immediately as they could be held responsible for any death or injury caused by this wall collapsing.”
