Staff at the Derry Journal have backed a world record breaking attempt due to be held in Ebrington Square next Saturday.
Sandra Biddle from the Foyle School of Speech and Drama put reporters, photographers and advertising staff through their paces yesterday morning as they attempted to learn the routine in time for the big event on March 2.
And if you haven’t signed up yet, there still is time.
The aim is to have more than 4,500 people in Ebrington Square next Saturday at 1 p.m. to break the world record of the largest song and dance routine of Annie the musical.
Volunteers will be in Foyleside Shopping Centre today from 12-8 p.m. and tomorrow from 10-6 p.m. so make sure you go and register this weekend.
You can also register at any of the Foyle Hospice shops or at the Foyle Hospice Fundraising Centre Tel: 71 359888.
There will be an opportunity to register on the day. However organisers are urging people to pre-register to ensure they get a T-Shirt.
Sandra Biddle who is organising the event, has urged everyone to come along and take part.
“This will be a day to remember,” she said. “It’s the first family event in the culture calendar and will be a great day for the city.
“It’s a chance for us all to be part of breaking a world record.”
And she urged men, as well as women to take part.
“Everyone is welcome,” she said. “We’re hoping the sun will shine and it will be a fantastic day for the city.”
As the event has been sponsored by Derry-born Hollywood actress Roma Downey, all funds raised will go to the Foyle Hospice who are currently planning to refurbish bedrooms for outpatients.
As part of the event the Derry Journal will be producing an aerial print as a keepsake of the record breaking event.
Just pay £1 extra when registering for the event with the Foyle Hospice, or text DJL (space) ANNIE (space) followed by your name and address including postcode and send to 61500 (texts will cost (£1.50) or drop in or post £1 (along with your full contact details to ANNIE Aerial Poster, Derry Journal, 113-118 Duncreggan Road, BT48 0AA.
