SDLP Councillor John Boyle has urged the Council not to miss the boat in terms of the reflecting the city’s historical significance during the Battle of the Atlantic.
Mr Boyle was speaking as it emerged almost 3,000 visitors turned out for the U-boat surrender 70th anniversary event in Derry in May. Council officers confirmed the pilot event will become a two day festival from 2016.
Colr. Boyle said: “There’s a real opportunity for us to develop this kind of tourism. There’s more we could be doing in terms of reflecting the history of the city.”
