DPP is to appeal sentence imposed on Shaun Kelly

It has been confirmed the Director of Public Prosecutions is to appeal the sentence of the Inishowen man jailed for dangerous driving causing the deaths of eight people.

Shaun Kelly, Hill Road, Ballymagan was sentenced to four years imprisonment, with two years suspended by Judge John O’Hagan at Letterkenny Circuit Court in December.

He was also banned from driving for eight years. Kelly had previously pleaded guilty to the charge before his trial began in July last year.However, the DPP has now decided to appeal the sentence. It is understood they contacted the Gardai to inform them of this decision and the victim’s families have been informed.
