Do you need a new challenge or goal?
Eurospar Dungiven will be holding their Annual Charity 10K Run on Saturday 27th August 2011 with proceeds from the event going to the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. This could be your goal for 2011!
Last week’s issue featured Boxing Champion, Paul ‘Dudey’ McCloskey’s first week of his 9 week training programme. Each week Paul will be giving you advice and tips to help you walk, jog or run your way to the finish line!
Week 2 (1st July)
Dudey’s Top Tip of the Week – Not only does running burn calories, it can also help moderate eating habits and curb cravings, so running is good for your weight.
If you have not exercised recently, please consult your doctor for a check-up before beginning training. Always train at your own level and listen to your own body.
Always begin and end each training session with a 5 – 10 minute warm-up and cool down. Ensure to eat before you leave for your run, the main source of fuel for the body is carbohydrate, and make sure you are hydrated; when training the aim is to drink little and often.
Friday: Walk 5min brisk, run 20min, walk 5min brisk; Saturday: Rest Day; Sunday: Run 20mins easy; Monday: Rest Day; Tuesday: Run 25min easy; Wednesday: Rest Day; Thursday: Run/jog 20min easy pace, walk 5min brisk (For those interested in walking the 10K or the 3K Fun Walk, replace the runs in this training schedule with brisk walking)
You can swap the days to suit your lifestyle and remember always listen to your body, good luck!
