Cathal Ó hOisín MLA has confirmed that Pearse Doherty TD will deliver the main speech at Sunday’s Easter Rising commemoration in Dungiven. The event will commence at 12 noon in the car park of St Patrick’s chapel and Mayor Sean McGlinchey will lay a wreath at the Republican memorial on behalf of Limavady Borough Council.
Mr Ó hOisín said: “We are expecting a large turnout this year as this will be the curtain raiser of an historic year for Dungiven. We will be hosting the 2012 National Hunger Strike rally on 5th August which is a tremendous honour for Dungiven and East Derry. Over 20,000 Republicans are expected to attend and the preparation work starts now. It’s historically significant because we are the last home town of the ten hunger strikers to host the international event.”
