SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has attended a parliamentary event at Westminster this week showcasing the upcoming Walled City Tattoo (24-27 August 2014) and highlighting the incredible success of Derry as the first ever UK City of Culture.

Mr Durkan said the parliamentary event was a “great opportunity” to show Derry off to others and said he was happy to be supporting this year’s Walled City Tattoo event which will take place in August.

“This was a great opportunity to highlight some of what was achieved during Derry’s City of Culture year and in particular to promote the Walled City Tattoo 2014.

“Although our year as City of Culture may have officially ended, a three year Legacy Promise has been put in place to continue its momentum and the transformation it brought to our streets.

“I am delighted to support this year’s Walled City Tattoo – which represents a further stage of that legacy. Indeed, this was one of the highlights of the City of Culture year and it is great to see it established in the calendar.

“I have no doubts it will be a huge success again – attracting thousands of visitors and entertaining a huge audience with fantastic sound and spectacle.

“The Tattoo will once again allow us to share our stage with nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians, singers and dancers.

“The stunning cityscape backdrop and the traditions it showcases helps to put Derry-Londonderry confidently on the map.”
