SDLP Foyle Westminster candidate Mark Durkan has held a meeting with U4D to discuss taking the case for university expansion in Derry forward.
Speaking after today’s meeting, Mr Durkan said:
“In this meeting we discussed not just the terms in which we need to keep making for university expansion in Derry but how to take that case forward in the context of coming changes.
“Those change scenarios include new departmental set-ups, the next programme for government, the long-awaited North West Ministerial sub-group, a new leadership at Ulster University, the next Westminster government, and the possible ambit of a City Deal.
“In light of all the frustrations at the lack of traction around the targeted deliverables of the One Plan, we shared a view that such governance changes should not be an excuse for more process and false promise but an overdue time for real product.
“Having been denied the serious gear-change expansion of university capacity framed in the all-agreed One Plan, people in Derry want more than institutional intent, diversionary appraisal tests and serial process excuses around budgets, bureaucracy or other burdens.”
