Today will see the eagerly awaited launch of the 2014 Earhart Festival at Northside Shopping Centre, bringing forth a wonderfully creative programme which will showcase the outstanding creative talent that exists in the heart of our local communities.

Speaking prior to the launch Mr Oliver Green Earhart Festival co-ordinator said, “We are extending an open invitation right across the city for one and all to come along and get involved in the Earhart Festival 2014,in particular we would like to see as many groups/organisations/residents/artists come together and help us make this year’s Speaking to the World Cultural Carnival Parade the most inclusive and greatest to date”

This year’s Earhart Festival offers a truly amazing array of entertainment to suit all tastes and interests with community events such as our world famous Teddy Bears Picnic to our Senior Citizens Tea Dance, Our not to be missed Carnival King and Queen Competition, our week long children’s arts festival, The Tales of the Outer North Book Launch, culminating in our Carnival day spectacular on Sunday the 20th July, incorporating The Speaking to the World Cultural Carnival Parade, which will see hundreds of people providing a splash of colour and carnival music weaving their way through the streets of Greater Shantallow in what promises to be the biggest community carnival parade in the North West. Our Carnival Day Spectacular, “Celebrating our Roots” is back in the heart of the community at Fergleen Field and will see the hosting of a wonderful fun filled family day, where thousands of people will gather to enjoy an amazing array of childrens attractions, arts and crafts and floor performances, music, dance, craft workshops, bouncing castles, amusements and much much more leading to the ultimate pinnacle that is The Henry Girls, an Irish folk and roots music group, whom are hot from their outstanding appearance at Glastonbury, also live on stage we have Brush Shiels, best known for being the frontman of, Skid Row, The fantastic Superstition, the enchanting musical magic of Dara, Galliaghs very own Michael Doherty and introducing the best of Derry’s newest stars of the future, Riot Upstairs and the Messin with Music Performers, all hosted by Derry Comedy Legend Billy Carlin.
