A Derry MLA has called for a permanent Tate gallery to be established in the city.

The SDLP’s Colum Eastwood says a permanent gallery is the next logical step after the success of the Turner exhibition currently running at Ebrington.

“Tate have a gallery in St Ives, so why not one in Derry?

“It would help sustain the arts scene after 2013, making sure Derry stays on the cultural map and bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city every year, “ he said.

In Friday’s Journal Mr Eastwood further explains why people from across Ireland and the Uk should consider “coming here and staying here.”
