A Derry assemblyman has warned that the redevelopment of the Ebrington site alone will not deliver the prosperity Derry needs.
OFMDFM spokesperson Colum Eastwood has said that the development of the Ebrington site, whilst welcome, should not be the sole focus of the Executive’s commitment to Derry’s ‘One Plan’.
Mr Eastwood was speaking after he pressed the First and Deputy First Minister at the OFMDFM committee, to give concrete details on the Programme for Government’s (PFG)commitment to ‘develop’ the regeneration plan in Derry city.
Mr Eastwood said: ‘The inclusion of the ‘One Plan’ in the PFG was a welcome development but it has been a concern of mine for some time that insufficient detail, whether in the PFG, the capital budget or the Investment Strategy, has been forthcoming for the full implementation of the plan.”
He added: “Capital and resource commitments of £30 million for the Ebrington site, over the course of the PFG period, will not deliver the ambition promised to the people of this city.”
