Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, known as Northern Ireland’s leading Dance Company, is partnering with Derry’s Steelstown Primary School in an exciting two-year dance project designed to bring more movement into school life.
Over 400 pupils and 20 staff members at Steelstown Primary will be lucky enough to participate in dance classes, watch performances and some will even create their own performance with help from Echo Echo.
The two year education programme is funded by Legacy Trust UK’s Connections programme which has been set up to help build a cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Connections programme is managed by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Principal of Steelstown Primary School, Deirdre Gillespie said: “We are delighted that Steelstown P.S has been invited to become involved in this two year project with Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company.
“The staff were extremely impressed by the interaction between the dancers and pupils and how even the most reluctant or timid children were totally engaged in the workshops.
“We are looking forward with great excitement to the development of the project as it will undoubtedly add an extra dimension to the curriculum of the school and the experiences of our pupils”
If you are interested in Echo Echo’s work, the company will be holding a ‘Dance Picnic’ event this Saturday, February 26, at its dance studio in The Waterside Theatre. Entrance is £3 with group discounts. For more information, contact: 71. 342266 or visit: www.echoechodance.com.
