A “unique” event combining interactive art installation and live performance visits the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre/ Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró this month.
Created by Young at Art, creators of the international Belfast Children’s Festival in association with Giant Events Company and Assault Events, The Giant is Coming! visits Limavady in the lead up to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad event ‘Land of Giants’.
Exploring what a giant is from a child’s perspective and “how great things can come from small beginnings, this is a wonderful interactive exhibition devised purposely to engage young minds bursting with enthusiasm, curiosity and imagination!” said a spokesperson.
Children will step inside a room filled with the giants of literature, climb into a place where all perspectives of size change and sneak into a space to reveal the secrets of being a Giant.
The exhibition installation is available for general viewing in the Danny Boy Auditorium from Tuesday, 24 to Saturday, 28 April from 9.30am-5pm and admission is free.
There will also be magical live performances in the installation, combining music, song and movement for small groups of ten children per time. Suited to children aged 6-9 years, live performances take place on Friday, 27 April at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm and also on Saturday, 28 April at 11am, 12noon and 1pm.
Due to limited places available, advance booking is highly recommended and places cost £2 per child.
Desima Connolly, Arts & Cultural Services Officer, said: “This magical children’s event premiered to packed audiences as part of the 2012 Belfast Children’s Festival, and now, we are delighted to bring it to Limavady, as only one of five venues to host it as part of the Cultural Olympiad initiative.
“This is a unique, quality arts learning experience for children and local primary schools and youth clubs to enjoy and should not be missed.”
