Major success for Gaelscoil Eadhan Mhoir

One of the city’s Irish language medium primary schools was in celebratory mood yesterday morning after a swathe og their young pupils performed brilliantly at GCSE level despite being aged between just 10 and 11 years old.

Gaelscoil Eadhan Mhoir, situated beside the Gasyard Centre in the Brandywell entered 16 children in the GCSE Irish examination. Over 60 per cent of the candidates entered were awarded grades A and A*.

The GCSE centred on four components-writing,speaking,reading and listening skills and a high percentage of the children also achieved full marks in the speaking and writing elements. And, all children that completed all for components achieved A*-C grades.

Principal of the school Mary Nic Ailín told the Journal: “We are absolutely delighted at the childrens’ success. All the hard work undertaken by the teachers, Alicia O’Kane and Maria Cutliffe has certainly paid off. The dedication shown by our children throughout their primary school education has come to fruition with these outstanding results.
