Construction Lecturer David McCay said that Martin had a natural flair for tiling.

Since winning the Intercampus Competition in January 2013, he has gone on to take the top spot in the Skill Build Regional Finals and the Tilers and Bricklayers Guild Award when he represented Northern Ireland at the UK-wide competition in Birmingham.

Martin is now one of only two hopefuls in with a chance of representing the UK in the Worlds Skills competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2015.

Until then he will be undergoing training within the UK and further afield in Denmark and Switzerland.

His latest achievement is winning the Federation of Master Builders Apprenticeship of the Year Award, and will now go on to view for theUK Award in London.

“I cannot emphasise just how proud I am of this young man and all that he has achieved,” his lecturer Mr McClay said.
