Past pupils help to inspire future generations at Oakgrove

Students at Oakgrove Integrated College were treated to a series of workshops last Friday led by past pupils from several different integrated colleges, including Oakgrove IC's past pupils Treasa Harkin, Amy Webster, Rachel Donaghey and Megan Stevenson.

In a unique initiative, students at nine different integrated colleges across Northern Ireland have been taking part in the two-day Back to School Roadshow, delivered by members of the Integrated Alumni, the network of past pupils from integrated schools and supporters of integrated education in Northern Ireland.

The interactive workshops at Oakgrove IC included a presentation and discussion with sixth form students centred on options for the future and the network of contacts ready to help them as they prepare to leave school and enter the world of further and higher education or work.

Fourth year students enjoyed a range of engaging and interactive activities aimed at motivating them to aim high to achieve their goals.

During the workshop the past pupils were supported by other active members of the Integrated AlumNI, which unites former pupils who are keen to raise their voices in support of integrated education in Northern Ireland.

After the workshop Treasa Harkin said: “Its great to go back into school and meet the current pupils who are making the same kinds of plans we were not so long ago.

“By going back to school we can share our experiences and offer them reassurance that friendly help and support is available through the Integrated AlumNI groups.”

Membership of the Integrated AlumNI is free and open to all past pupils from integrated schools.
