Excellence Awards.

The award was presented in recognition for their outstanding work in restoring First Derry Presbyterian Church.

This church, at Magazine Street, lay unoccupied for eight years due to serious structural problems.

The award for Woodvale comes on the heels of their win last year for the restoration of St Columb’s Cathedral which was shortlisted for the 2012 RICS Grand Final Awards in London.

The restoration of First Derry was a complex project involving removal of the existing roof and repair of the massive timber beams.

The project also involved strengthening of the Corinthian pillars and portico structure and the complete restoration of the ceiling and interior of the church, hall and Blue Coat School.

A delighted Robert Ewing, of Woodvale, commented: “The winning of this major award for the last two years has been well deserved recognition for our Restoration Division.

“The professional approach and attention to detail of a very experienced Woodvale team led to the completion of a successful project.”

Rev David Latimer, of First Derry, has hailed the “high quality craftsmanship” evident throughout the restored building.
