Community leaders in Creggan have welcomed a major clean up initiative carried out across the estate recently.

Graffiti removal, litter picking, mural painting, and general improvement works have been ongoing in the Rinmore, Chapel Lane, and Bligh’s Lane areas since the summer, carried out by the Triax Neighbourhood Management Team.

Derry City Council has now agreed to take responsibility for cleaning the areas.

Welcoming the move, local councillor and Triax neighbourhood management team member Kevin Campbell said; “During the summer months the Triax Neighbourhood Management Team led the way in an environmental improvement scheme in Central Drive and Blighs Lane.

“This project saw intensive litter picks, graffiti removal, mural painting and the painting of several community buildings and a general improvement in the area.” One of the outstanding issues was to establish a cleaning rota for the Rinmore and Chapel Lane sections of Blighs Lane and I am delighted that this has been resolved. This project has been an excellent example of the benefits of partnership working and would not have been possible without the support of Derry City Council, NIHE and Roads Service who worked alongside ourselves, residents, the Bogside & Brandywell Health Forum and CNP.”

Colr. Campbell addd; “Whilst there remains work to be completed, it is fair to say a great start has been made.”
