Colr. McGinley said the need for increased social housing provision in the Council area was “beyond question” and that the decision of the Planning Committee to approve this application “is to be greatly welcomed.”

He said: “I am aware of the high demand for social housing in the wider Hazelbank/Ballymagroarty area and the desire of families to remain within this locality and this new development will go some way to addressing the deficit which currently exists. It is to be hoped that this particular area can be earmarked for further housing and it will be important to ensure that if this materialises it is accompanied by the necessary infrastructure which will accommodate the provision of public transport.”
