Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the decision by Department Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy to meet with all local East Derry MLA’s to discuss the Dungiven bypass.
Mr Ó hOisín stated: “In reply to an earlier written question I had asked of DRD Minister Danny Kennedy on the Dungiven bypass he said he is intent on reversing the earlier decision to proceed with it, due to cost and financial cutbacks during this term.
“I told the Minister that the Dungiven bypass must be a priority infrastructural project for the DRD during this term and that I believed that the Dungiven bypass project must be a stand alone project, rather than being coupled with the A6 upgrade.
“By decoupling the bypass from the A6 upgrade it would be possible to proceed with the bypass this term. I am happy that the Minister has now responded to these calls and agreed to meet all local MLA’s to discuss the project.
“It is important that we have a united voice on this subject and I am calling on all MLA’s to ensure that this meeting is a priority date in their diaries.”
