A programme of refurbishment work has been undertaken to address concerns over the state of the Beechwood Steps in Derry.

The work at the Beechwood site was carried out by Triax Neighbourhood Management team over recent weeks and has now been completed.

There had been concerns raised over the state of the steps in recent years.

Some residents had reported health and safety of local people while trying to negotiate the steps, with many taking alternative detours because of the issue.

Sinn Féin Councillor for the area Colly Kelly has welcomed the completion of the programme of works.

He said: “Following concerns raised by local residents, I had been in discussions with Road Service and Triax Neighbourhood Management to see if something could be done in and around the steps.

“They had become very badly overgrown and were particularly bad for anyone having to walk down the steps late at night.”

“I know it’s a constant battle to keep trees and bushes trimmed back but I am glad that this work by TRIAX will go some way to counteract this,” Councillor Kelly said.
