Another of Derry’s historic buildings has undergone a major transformation as part of Derry City Council’s Dereliction Improvement Scheme - and all it took was the illusion of windows!
Improvement works to the former Abercorn Shirt Factory gives the whole building a new lease of life. A spokesperson for Derry City Council explained that work there hopes to improve the visual appearance of a very prominent gateway to the city. “The property is one of 130 sites and properties identified for improvement as part of the £0.5m physical regeneration project being delivered by Derry City Council, following a successful bid it made to the Department of Environment to upgrade the condition of a number of prominent properties/sites to coincide with Derry’s title as UK City of Culture for 2013. The works include the painting of facades and other cosmetic improvements to buildings, graffiti removal, clearance of derelict sites and erection of hoarding to screen sites.”
One thing is for sure, Derry is looking better than ever!
