There were almost as many parking fines handed out in Spencer Road last year than the next two parking-fine hotspots in Derry - Strand Road and Bishop Street - combined.
There were a total of 618 fixed penalty notices issued by traffic wardens in Spencer Road in 2014, 256 more than the next worst street for parking fines, Strand Road. There were 362 parking fines issued at Strand Road, with Bishop Street third in the list with drivers clocking up 281 fixed penalty notices there.
Altogether, there were 4,988 parking fines issued to drivers who parked illegally on Derry streets during 2014. There were a further 3,138 parking fines issued to drivers at car parks in the Derry City Council area.
Drivers using Bishop Street car park clocked the highest number of fines, with 717, followed by Victoria Market where 570 were handed out. Foyle Street car park was the third worst place for illegal parking with 461 fines issued, followed by Queens Quay with 357, William Street with 304, Strand Road with 222, Carlisle Road with 156 and Spencer Road car park with 125.
This follows news that Prices are set to surge after March 31, 2015 when responsibility for car parking passes from the Department for Regional Development (DRD) at Stormont to the new Derry City and Strabane District Council.
