Derry and Strabane Council are to contact Transport N.I. over reporting of street light outages in the city and district.
The Council is expected to call on the government body to ensure that the public is able to get in touch with them following concerns raised by local people.
Sinn Fein Councillor Maoliosa McHugh raised the matter at Derry City & Strabane District Council’s December meeting, stating that the issue was causing him “great concern at the present time.”
Colr. McHugh claimed the street lighting department was not accepting calls from the public or elected representatives regarding outages. He added that he had been told it’s possible to contact Transport N.I. by internet, but warned that not everyone was internet savvy or had access to online facilities.
The ‘Journal’ revealed last week that there are now in the region of 400 street lights out across Derry and Strabane.
