Former Westlife singer Shane Filan was paid a whopping £10,000 for his appearance at the first City of Culture legacy event in Derry.
The Sligo singer was paid the £10,000 fee for the free to the public ‘Hear the City Sing’ show on January 17, which also featured Derry acts The Clameens, Little Bear and Erica Curran.
“The Hear the City Sing event was organised to thank the public for their input into making the City of Culture year a huge success and to promote the number of events taking place as part of 2014 Music City. “Shane Filan was booked by Derry City Council at a cost of £10,000 while local bands the Clameens, Little Bear and Erica Curran and a harpist provided additional music entertainment at a total cost of £750, ” a council spokeswoman said.
