Explosives accused to go on trial in Belfast court

Three Derry men have been returned for trial at Belfast Crown Court on explosives charges.

Jason Ceulemans (40) of 270 Lecky Road, Damien Harkin (47) of 20 Westland Avenue, and Neil Hegarty (48) of 45 Sackville Court face charges in connection with the discovery of an explosively formed projectile in the city on December 6 last year.

The trio are charged with conspiring to cause an explosion, possessing an improvised explosive device with intent and under suspicious circumstances and possessing a walkie-talkie radio and a torch on suspicion that they were for use in an act of terrorism.

At a preliminary enquiry at Derry Court yesterday the defendants said they had nothing to say.

The trial date has yet to be fixed.
