Detectives investigating the death of a 19 year-old woman in Creggan yesterday will wait for the results of a post-mortem examination before releasing any information on how she died.
The post-mortem is due to take place today.
It is still unclear whether the woman died as a result of an accident or foul play.
The deceased teenager is from Portaferry in County Down and according to police she was in the first year of a nursing degree at University of Ulster, Magee.
The girl was found by paramedics at the bottom of stairs at a flat in the early hours of Thursday. She died a while later in Altnagelvin hospital
Local Sinn Fein councillor, Kevin Campbell, was in direct contact with the late girl’s family yesterday evening.
“I spoke to the girl’s uncle and as you would imagine the family is utterly devastated,” said Colr. Campbell.
A 21 year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and at the time going to print he remained in custody at the Antrim serious crime suite.
