The ‘Journal’ is asking the North West public to dig deep in the final week of the Derry Journal Christmas Toy Appeal.

Now in its 12th year, the Journal Toy Appeal, which runs in conjunction with the Salvation Army, St Vincent De Paul and the Northern Ireland Fire Service, collects presents for children of all ages, both boys and girls. Donations are also needed for teenagers.

You have until Friday afternoon if you want to donate a gift to our toy appeal.

Over the past decade, the campaign has helped bring Christmas cheer to thousands of local families. Remember that the person you are buying for could be your neighbour.

All we ask is that, while you are out shopping, you slip an extra present into your basket.

In these times of economic cutbacks, there has never been a more important time to contribute.

‘Journal’ Promotions Executive Geraldine Gallagher says that, with your help, we can try to ensure no child wakes up on Christmas morning without a present waiting for them under the tree.

Says Geraldine: “Derry people are famed for their generosity and year on year our Toy Appeal has provided a lifeline to many families in need over the festive period.

“Every parent wants the very best for their child and no one wants a child to miss out on the magic of Christmas.

“Put an extra toy in your trolley this year or, alternatively, donate some cash or a cheque to the appeal.

“All donations will go directly to families in need.”

Donations gratefully accepted to (new toys only) St Vincent de Paul, Ozanam House, 22 Bridge Street or at Salvation Army, John Street. You can also drop presents off at Northland Road Fire Station, or at the Derry Journal Offices.

If you prefer to make a donation other than toys, you can send cheques to Toy Appeal, Derry Journal, 113-118 Duncreggan Road, BT48 0AA.
