A bookies in Central Drive in Creggan has been left badly damaged after an overnight fire.

Sinn Féin Councillor for Creggan Kevin Campbell has urged anyone with information about the fire at the Ladbrokes bookmakers shop to come forward.

Councillor Kevin Campbell condemned those responsible for the fire and said it had it not been for the quick response of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service the fire could have spread to other businesses.

“Once again a local business is counting the cost of a hefty repair bill following this fire. The businesses along Central Drive provide services and much needed employment for local people.

“Whoever was responsible not only has caused damage to this building but potentially could have damaged the entire block if it had not been for the quick response of the fire service.

“I would urge anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward.”
