The Buncrana Chamber Business Awards Gala Ball will be held on November 14 in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel. This is the first ever awards ceremony and is a black tie event but tuxedo is not essential.

There will be a champagne reception from 7pm and then a four course dinner at 8pm. Music is by Pure Fresh and tickets are 50 euro each. The list of awards – Buncrana Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Start-up Business of the Year, Young Business of the Year, employee of the Year and Community Award. Nomination is open to all members, non-members and the general public. The top nominated finalists for each category will be selected by a panel of external adjudicators and the winners will be announced on the night.

A Mass for bikers will take place on September 6 at 1pm in St Aengus’ Church, Burt. A collection will be taken up at this Mass for the RNLI. After the Mass there will be a short bike run to Ned’s Point RNLI Station. All welcome.

There will be an Archaeology of Inishowen talk in Carndonagh library on September 3 at 7pm. Did you know that the ancient kings of the kingdom of Northumbria had links with Inishowen? Bernicia was the ancient name for the kingdom of Northumbria, the borderlands between England and Scotland and at least two Bernician kings had links with Inishowen when it was a powerful kingdom in its own right. Archaeologists have located and mapped remains of some early monasteries and their talk will highlight their findings and the connection to St Patrick and St Colm Cille. Everyone is very welcome.

The Inishowen Archaeological Heritage Lands of Eogain Festival will take place from today at Glencrow Hall, Moville and across Inishowen and all events are free entry. On Friday evening 8 to 9pm at Glencrow Hall, the Inishowen lecture 2015 by Dr Brian Lacey ‘Cenél Éogain dynasty to Tir Eógain’.

The on Saturday from 10am to 4pm at also at Glencrow Hall there is the Inishowen Archaeological Heritage Fair with presentations and talks, stalls and activities. And finally on Sunday from 1 to 4pm there will be the ‘Across Inishowen Seven Saints Tour’ with self-guided visits to ancient sites across North Inishowen. Booklets are available via local outlet.

Philomena and Michael Scott are having a one-day sale of organic vegetables and home made jam tomorrow in aid of the special needs children in Scoil Iosagain and the Galway cancer bus. It will be across the road from the cinema where the hairdressers used to be.

Registration night for 2015/16 Buncrana Scout Group will take place on September 7 in Christ Church Hall from 7 to 8.30pm. Open to all children and youths aged 6 to 18 years old. For further information please contact Alison, telephone 0858721799
