A long-term flooding problem in some areas of Glenroe Park, Dungiven, has received the attention of East Derry SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat.

The SDLP Assemblyman said yesterday he has taken the issue up with the Department of Regional Development and called for a ‘once and for all solution to the problem’.

“I am hopeful the Roads Agency will accept that previous attempts to resolve the mystery as to why this problem is reoccurring have failed. Strenuous efforts should be made to identify the problem and bring forward a permanent solution so that local people don’t have to wade through water each time there is a shower,” he said.

“The roads in this estate have been adopted by Roads Service and are, therefore, their responsibility.”

One resident who is affected by the issue said it’s been going on for years, and something needs to be done.

“It used to be it would take a lot of rain for there to be flooding, but now it seems to take nothing at all. It’s bad, and can get about eight inches deep,” he said.
