Derry’s Fountain estate is to get a new Street Museum that will chronicle the history of the area.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland yesterday announced his Department will fund the museum - one of two projects at cathedral youth Club which will share £11,000 of government funding.
“The Street Museum will provide the local community and the town’s many tourists with an insight into the history of the Fountain area.
“The funding will also be used to improve the appearance of a number of nearby derelict buildings at the entrance to the Fountain Housing Estate to improve the general appearance of the estate and create a sense of pride in the area,” he said.
The Museum project has received £5117 while the Cathedral Youth Club’s core project “Investing in Young People, Families and the Community” was also allocated £6,696 by the Minister.
